Hitchin & District Canine Society Open Show 2014 Critique

Thank you to all the Committee members at Hitchin & District C.S for inviting me to judge at their show. I appreciated all their hard work after the printing error in the schedule and their requests to the Kennel Club to keep my appointment. I had a really enjoyable day in such a beautiful setting and huge thanks to my Steward who did such an expert job. I was delighted with my entry and "Thank you" to all the exhibitors who gave me the privilige of judging their hounds. I was pleased to find that width to hindquarters had improved and no light eyes. Feet need to improve as some are flatter. Some hounds found the small ring and the menage surface a little uncustomary. I had to make some challenging decisions to find my winners.

JUNIOR  3 entries 1 absentee
1st.  REGALFLIGHT FALON
9 Months Dog. Strong youngster masculine head with dark eye. Well placed shoulder good width and depth to chest on one so young, with good spring of rib. Wide strong hindquarters, good bend of stifle and low set hocks. I would have preferred tighter feet. Moved out with drive holding top line. BP.
2nd. CHUILINN BELLINA
8 Months Bitch. Pretty feminine bitch with the sweetest head and expression, small neat ears full of quality. Good width and tight feet. Correct shoulder placement. Correct coat and good width hindquarters. She pushed my winner so hard but just lost out on movement. A lovely future prospect.

POSTGRADUATE  4 entries 1 absentee
1st. REGALFLIGHT PEMBA
2yrs Bitch. Classic head with dark pigmentation. Well placed shoulder plenty of width to front and hindquarters. Coarse coat. Length from hip to low set hocks. Prefer tighter feet. Needs to fill out which should occur with maturity. Movement appeared effortless across the menage surface in such a small ring. Pleased to award her BOB.
2nd. CASSACRE AELFRIDA OF GHILTAN
Maturer bitch than my winner. Feminine head and expression with dark eye. Good width front and rear. Correct coat and flowing lines in profile. Little weak in pasterns but moved out with drive. Harder to assess over surface as she constantly looked for her owner in the small ring. Placements could easily change on another day.

OPEN  2 entries 1 absentee
1st. CASSACRE AELGYTH
Stood alone in this class. Classic head very feminine and lovely dark eye. Depth to chest and good front. Would have prefered more width and muscle but she had a lovely flowing outline in good coat Low set hocks and she held her top line on the move. Challenged so hard for BOB but I was delighted to award her RBOB.
